Frequently Asked Questions
How do I save?
LandSCAPE is created with Flash, a secure format for authoring interactive content on the web. Part of its safety is not allowing a search of, or saving to, a users hard drive. That means I can't save out a file - ever. You can print to paper, or a PDF (with appropriate software). And Version 3.0 now utilizes manages saves through Flash's protected data format (much like a cookie, in a web browser). It's not the perfect solution, but no one wants Flash to be able to write to your hard drive (just think of the viruses that could be made...)
Okay...why the big changes?
Basically, I didn't know if anyone would even *use* Version 1. Apparently you did, and I got a lot of positive and constructive feedback. Plus, it was fairly hard-coded and the support we got from Hasbro showed that Heroscape scenarios were going to change A LOT in the coming years. So, I figured I needed to make LS able to grow and adapt as new expansions come out
Will my previous Version 2 save work in this version?
Nope. The save formats aren't even remotely compatible. But I'll listen to see if that's a problem, and if it is, I'll look into making a program to transfer the old saves into the new strucutre.
How can I share maps?
Besides printing to paper or a PDF, some users shared the Flash data file (a .sol file). In Version 3.0, there isn't an easy way to do that. It's definitely on my mind. The new data format allows map data to be downloaded, directly into LandSCAPE. That's a great future option, but I need to solve the server issues of *uploading* files first. You'll definitely hear more about this later.
Where are Wave 2 expansions/roads/bridges?
My stance is that I'll try to get a version out, about the same time Hasbro releases the new sets. Honestly, I don't want to put any work into it until the sets are *actually* shipping and appearing in stores. That way I won't waste any time if something changes, and there won't be maps out there with incorrect types of tiles.
What about fan-created tiles?
While I know the beauty of Heroscape is the fan-created tiles and units, I have no plans to incorporate them into LandSCAPE.
Who worked on LandSCAPE?
I made it, but a lot of ideas came from the Heroscape.net crowd. And with this version, I got a HUGE help with the beta testing from HS.net members Grungebob, Kenntak, StarSlayer, noodlemans, and MarroWarrior (who found a ridiculous amount of bugs) Thanks guys!
Will you make a version of LandSCAPE that lets you play the game?
Nope. Never. I'd be sued out of existence. Go play the game. :)
So what's coming next?
Next up is the getting ready for the May expansion sets. Also, I plan to tweak the formatting of the text pages in the printouts. And of course...watch for new bugs... :)
